SHILLONG, Oct 2: The National People’s Party (NPP) MLAs in Jaintia Hills have allayed apprehensions that Congress, under the leadership of Vincent Pala, will perform well in the region during the upcoming Assembly elections.
Speaking to media persons here recently, Jowai MLA, Wailadmiki Shylla, exuded confidence that NPP will not face a tough challenge in Jaintia Hills despite the arrival of Pala.
“If you remember, in last election, Congress managed to win only one seat in Jaintia Hills and now even with the coming of Pala, I don’t think Congress  will grow in strength there,” he said.
The MLA also asserted that even during the MP elections, Pala had received less number of votes from Jaintia Hills, adding that he secured most of his votes from East Khasi Hills.
Shylla also dismissed speculations that he and other senior NPP leaders from Jaintia Hills may join Congress. “We are happy with NPP and confident that we will come up in next election as well,” the MLA said.
