UAVs banned in Umroi military area
NONGPOH, Oct 21: As per instructions from the Ministry of Defence, flying of civil RPAS/UAV/drones has been prohibited within 3 kilometre from the perimeter of Umroi Military Station. This was informed by Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah. As per the directive, Umroi Military Station has been declared as a no-flying zone for any unmanned aerial vehicles without prior permission from military authorities. Violation of the order will entail action under relevant section(s) of IPC, it was informed.
Wickliffe Syiem’s death anniversary
NONGSTOIN, Oct 21: The KSU from West Khasi Hills and the Nongstoin Syiemship Memorial Celebration Committee on Thursday observed the 33rd death anniversary of Syiem Khynnah (deputy king) of Hima Nongstoin, Wickliffe Syiem. Floral tributes were paid by the Committee members, including its chairman, RK Syiem, and secretary, EP Syiem (Syiem of Hima Nongstoin). A similar programme was also organised by the KSU, during which the Union members laid wreaths on the monument of Wickliffe Syiem. KSU central body chief, Lambokstar Marngar, during the programme, said that albeit Wickliffe Syiem was deemed an anti-national, the Hynniewtrep people always considered him a Khasi freedom fighter. Marngar, during the programme, also touched upon issues of border, ILP, CAA, uranium, et al. Others who spoke during the programme include KSU general secretary Donald V Thabah, president KSU West Khasi Hills Johnfisher Nongsiang, among others.
Inter-college quiz competition
SHILLONG, Oct 21: As part of Meghalaya’s 50th statehood celebrations, the Co-Curricular Academic Development Committee of Shillong College on Thursday organised an intercollegiate quiz competition thematised on ‘50 years of Meghalaya — A trip Down Memory Lane’. A statement in this regard informed that as many as 11 colleges partook in the competition event. “Nikita Kumari and Blari Dashisha Lyngdoh of St. Mary’s College emerged as the top scorers followed by Gary Wendell Suchiang and Daohi Manar of Martin Luther Christian University who bagged the second position. The third position went to Manhakani Passah and Md Niyazul Rahman of St. Edmund’s College,” the statement said. During the quiz competition, talks on Meghalaya’s history were also held by R Pyngrope, Department of Political Science, Shillong College.
