SHILLONG, Oct 21: A woman from a village in East Jaintia Hills, Thrina Suchen, has demanded a meeting of the Dorbar Shnong within a week’s time, failing which she will approach court. She has even sought revocation of the decision of the village head to purportedly ostracise her.
Suchen of Lama village in East Jaintia Hills, on Thursday, told reporters that she had lodged a complaint with Deputy Commissioner, Ethelbert Kharmalki, on October 18, and informed the latter that the Waheh Shnong of Tell Me Dong has not convened the meeting of the Dorbar Shnong as per the directive from his office.
She alleged that the headman had decided to ostracise her after she had sought an RTI from the Block Development Officer of Khliehriat in 2019 on the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in the village. “I will approach the court if the meeting of the Dorbar Shnong is not convened within the given deadline,” Suchen added.
Meanwhile, she said that the RTI documents had revealed that there were 164 job card holders in spite of the village having only 80 families.
