PSG’s Diallo released in probe into attack on teammate
PARIS, Nov 12: French police released Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Aminata Diallo from custody Thursday without charge but are still investigating an attack on one of her teammates, prosecutors said. Diallo and one other person were detained for questioning Wednesday about an attack on teammate Kheira Hamraoui last week, according to the Versailles prosecutor’s office. Both were released Thursday pending further investigation. The second person was not identified. No charges have been filed but investigation will continue, the prosecutor’s office said. (AP)

Aircraft operator in Sala case gets 18-month prison sentence
CARDIFF, Nov 12: The businessman who organized the flight that resulted in the death of Argentine soccer player Emiliano Sala was sentenced to 18 months in prison on Friday. David Henderson was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court, having already been found guilty by a majority verdict of endangering the safety of an aircraft. Sala died when the single-engine Piper Malibu aircraft in which he was traveling crashed in the English Channel on Jan. 21, 2019. Sala, who had played for French club Nantes, was flying to join his new team, Cardiff, in Wales. (AP)

Former Valencia prez charged with sexually abusing minor
Florida, Nov 12: Public prosecutors in Spain have charged a former president of Valencia football club with sexually abusing a minor, local media reported Friday. Prosecutors have accused Pedro Cortés of sexually abusing an underage member of the club’s youth teams last year. They are seeking a two-year prison sentence. Prosecutors said Cortés, who was president of Valencia from 1997-2001, touched the player in an inappropriate fashion while driving in his car. Cortés has denied the charges. (AP)

Leo Messi fit for WC qualifiers
Buenos Aires, Nov. 12: Lionel Messi will be available for Argentina’s 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil after recovering from hamstring and knee problems, Albiceleste manager Lionel Scaloni said on Thursday. The Paris Saint-Germain forward trained freely with the Argentina squad on Wednesday and Thursday, showing no sign of the injuries that kept him out of the French side’s last two matches. (UNI)

Houston (US), Nov 12: Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri was moving along with a series of pars for the first 15 holes before dropping two quick shots in succession to finish at 2-over 72 in the first round of the Hewlett Packard Enterprise Houston Open. Lahiri with a 72 lies 101st and is in danger of missing yet another cut in the fall season. The 34-year-old, who has been struggling with consistency for the last few weeks, dropped shots on par-5 16th and Par-4 17th. (PTI)
