SHILLONG/NONGPOH, Nov 16: As many as three persons have lost their lives in two separate road accidents, with one casualty from Ri Bhoi and two others from East Khasi Hills.
Several others were injured apart from the two who tragically died in the incident near Pommura village in East Khasi Hills on Monday morning after a tourist vehicle collided with an SUV.
Late reports said that one of the occupants had died on the spot while the driver of the car, identified as Kamni Siangshai of Nongrimbambthong, West Jaintia Hills, succumbed to his injuries at Shillong Civil Hospital on Tuesday.
In Ri Bhoi, a scooterist lost his life late Monday in yet another accident in the district after his scooty hit a truck in Mawsmai, 11th Mile.
According to sources, the scooterist, identified as Gobinda Nath, was proceeding towards Guwahati when he lost control of his over-speeding vehicle collided with a truck (AS01 EX 0271) which was en route to a petrol pump in Mawsmai, 11 Mer, for a refill.
Locals who witnessed the incident informed Jorabat Police. But the police personnel, who arrived at the spot, allegedly refused to take the case and only watched, which angered the local residents. “Whenever there is an incident in this area, the Jorabat Police used to take the case as they got money. However, in this case, since they did not get any money, the Jorabat Police refused to take the case despite the request for hours,” angered residents said. Later they informed the Khanapara Police Station.
After almost three hours, the Khanapara Police arrived and took the deceased to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for post-mortem and other formalities.
