ATP Challenger Tour: Ramkumar wins maiden singles title
manama (bahrain), Nov 28: Indian tennis player Ramkumar Ramanathan won his maiden Challenger level singles title on Sunday, 12 years after turning a Pro, when he outplayed Evgeny Karlovskiy in the summit clash of the ATP80 Manama event, here. The 27-year-old Ramkumar, who had lost six Challenger finals in his career before, beat his Russian rival 6-1 6-4 in 68 minutes. Ramkumar, seeded sixth and ranked 222 in the world, sealed the first set when the Russian’s backhand return sailed over the baseline. The 80 ranking points earned will push Ramkumar back into top-200 and also make him the highest-ranked Indian on the ATP singles ranking chart. (PTI)

IFA Shield: Real Kashmir FC go down to Calcutta Customs
Kolkata, Nov 28: Real Kashmir FC suffered a setback in their concluding group league match of the 124th IFA Shield, going down to Calcutta Customs by a solitary goal here on Sunday. Rabi Hansda struck the all-important goal in the first half added time (45+2) to be adjudged the man-of-the-match. Real Kashmir failed to find an equaliser as the local outfit Calcutta Customs defended well. Experienced Spanish midfielder Fran Gonzalez failed to make an impact for Real Kashmir. (PTI)

Batra fails to create history for India in World TT
Houston, Nov 28: Star India paddler Manika Batra failed to bag a medal at the World Table Tennis Championships after crashing out in the quarterfinals of the mixed and women’s doubles events here. Just one win away from a historic medal, Batra and G Sathiyan lost to Japan’s Tomakazu Harimoto and Hina Hayata 1-3 (5-11 2-11 11-7 9-11) in the last eight round of the mixed doubles competition. Batra had another opportunity to create history but she faltered yet again, losing the women’s doubles quarterfinals with her partner Archana Kamath in straight games to Sarah De Nutte and Ni Xia Lian, losing 0-3 (1-11 6-11 8-11). Rajveer wins triple gold in skeet, Kiran Jadhav men’s 3P champ
patiala, Nov 28: Punjab’s Rajveer Singh Gill claimed three gold medals, winning the skeet men, skeet junior and junior skeet team titles at the ongoing 64th Shooting Nationals for shotgun here on Sunday. In Bhopal, where the rifle nationals are taking place, Indian Navy’s Kiran Ankush Jadhav upstaged India number one Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar among others to claim gold in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions (3P) competition. Aishwary did make up for the disappointment, however, by claiming the junior men’s 3P title later in the day. (PTI)

Frank Williams, founder of F1 team, passes away at 79
london, Nov 28: Sir Frank Williams, the founder and former team principal of Williams Racing, has died. He was 79. Williams took his motor racing team from an empty carpet warehouse to the summit of Formula One, overseeing 114 victories, a combined 16 drivers’ and constructors’ world championships, while becoming the longest-serving team boss in the sport’s history. Williams, in a horrific car crash in France, had left him with injuries so devastating doctors considered turning off his life-support machine. But his wife Virginia ordered that her husband be kept alive and his sheer determination and courage enabled him to continue with the love of his life in a wheelchair. (AP)
