EGH regulates firecrackers bursting on Xmas, New Year’s Eve

TURA, Dec 8: Ahead of Christmas and New Year’s Eve, the East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner has prohibited sale, purchase and procurement of firecrackers having barium salts and all other banned firecrackers.
The DC has also imposed a ban on the use of joined or series firecrackers which cause air, noise, and solid waste pollution. Use of firecrackers generating noise level exceeding 125dB at four-metre distance has also been banned. Sale of firecrackers is permitted through licensed traders only, the EGH DC said.
With regard to the timing for bursting of crackers, the DC said that the bursting of firecrackers will be allowed between 11:55 pm and 12:30 am on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
The directive also bans bursting of crackers near a 100-metre vicinity of hospitals, nursing homes, healthcare centres, educational institutes, courts, religious places or other silent zones.
