SHILLONG, Dec 16: The state government will mull setting up administrative blocks across state in a bid to bring administration closer to the people.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma informed this on Thursday during a programme at Wapungskur village in East Jaintia Hills to mark the transfer of Khliehriāt C&RD block to Wapung.
In his address, the chief minister expressed hope that the transfer of the C&RD block from Khliehriāt to Wapung will bring administration closer to the people.
He said the government will examine the need to create more block offices in locations that deserve administrative bolstering.
“As per the need of the people of the state, the government will examine setting up of more administrative blocks. There are many regions in our state where people have to travel huge distances to access government services…and that is very unfair for the citizens. The government will examine the possibility of putting up more blocks to bring the administration closer to the people,” Conrad said.
Emphasising on the importance of C&RD blocks for administration, the chief minister added, “Block offices are the most important offices in rural areas. A majority of our schemes, especially the central government schemes, are implemented through the blocks and therefore it is imperative that people have easy access to the development initiatives of the government”.
It may be mentioned that the programme was also attended by C&RD Minister Hamletson Dohling and Social Welfare Minister Kyrmen Shylla.
