Over 500 girls feted for completing life skills programme

SHILLONG, Dec 21: Young adolescent girls who had undergone the ‘Empowering Adolescent Girls with Transformational Certified Life Skills Training Programme’ were felicitated on the programme’s completion at a function held recently. Chief Secretary RV Suchiang, who attended the programme as the chief guest, felicitated the girls in the programme that took place in at MAMETI Hall, Upper Shillong.
As per sources, a total of 506 girls from 12 villages completed the programme certified by GAP Inc’s Personal Advancement & Career Enhancement and conducted by Meghalaya Institute of Governance (MIG) and Humara Bachpan Trust (HBT) and FICCI Ladies Organisation. The target group for the programme was young adolescent girls from the age group 11-17 years from in Sohiong, Mawphlang and Laitkroh blocks of East Khasi Hills. It was implemented by providing a safe and fun learning experience to equipped them with life skills and knowledge to help maintain a happy and healthy life and feel empowered to protect themselves from threats, insults, abuse and to pursue their dreams.
Chief Secretary RV Suchiang commended the trainers and the organisations involved in disseminating the knowledge and training the adolescent girls for the much-needed life skills whereas, Guest of Honour, Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills district, Isawanda Laloo spoke on the need to extend this beneficial programme to other parts of the state too.
A large number of dignitaries spoke as well as participated in the programme. This includes Founder Chairperson of HBT, Dharitri Patnaik, Executive Director HBT, Arpita Patnaik, Director MIG, Aiban Swer, the Rangbah Shnong of Laitkroh Block, the Principal and teachers of Ram Krishna Mission Secondary School, Mawrah, Presbyterian Secondary School, Mawbeh, Tlongumiam Secondary School, St. Joseph’s LP School, SSA LP School, Pyndenglitha Secondary School and Rev Thomas Jones Secondary School along with the ASHA and Anganwadi workers of their respective blocks, HBT members and MIG team.
