SHILLONG, Dec 30: The Congress on Thursday asked the state government to work towards achieving goals and not limit itself to setting deadlines.
The statement was in the context of the resolution of the state’s vexed boundary row with Assam. The government had initially set a deadline of December 25 (Christmas) to resolve the dispute in six “less-complicated” areas. Later, it was extended to January 15.
Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader, Ampareen Lyngdoh said, “We are again seeing that deadlines are not being met. The government should put its foot down on all of these pending agenda that were promised so many Christmas ago.”
At the same time however, she expressed happiness that the state government is not being dictated by any other entity to resolve the problem in such a short period of time. She lamented that the Congress is not privy to what is transpiring.
Stating that the two Congress members in the border committee have been advised not to share any information, she said, “So, technically speaking, we have not yet discussed the agenda with our two party members who are in the committee and we look forward to the government calling us at the earliest.”
“We need to know what is going on since we are also stakeholders in this entire situation,” Lyngdoh added.
The Congress had earlier raised concern that the Chief Ministers of the two states are trying to resolve the issue in the six areas in haste.
