5 omicron cases detected in Meghalaya

SHILLONG,Jan 4: Five Omicron cases were detected in Meghalaya and while one was a citizen of Assam the other four are said to be from East Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi district.

Informing that the samples of those testing Cobid-19 positive are being sent for genome sequencing to determine the variant, the health official said that they had tested Covid-19 positive days ago and the report of their genome sequencing was received on Tuesday.

The five Omicron cases include two from Saiden, 1 from Langkyrding, 1 from Happy Valley and 1 from Laitumukhrah.

He informed from the five (4 male, 1 female), those detected in EKH one had come from the United States and the other from New Delhi and Assam, the two others from Ri-Bhoi have no travel history.

The official also informed that most of them have already completed 4-8 days of isolation.

Informing that contact tracing is on; the official said that all of their contacts will be tested.
