TURA: A total of nine new positive cases of covid have been detected on Wednesday in the West Garo Hills district, of which five happen to be from Tura town itself.
While the variant of the virus is awaited from the genome sequencing, the total number of active cases has risen to 20 across the entire district following the new positive cases.
While no cases of the latest super spreading omicron variant has been detected in garo Hills so far, yet, in East Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi district there are five active cases found on Tuesday.
The new detected cases of Covid include four from Tura civil hospital and one from Chandmari testing centre of the town.
Another four have been detected during testing at Dalu community health centre of the border town. The positivity rate has touched the 2.64% mark with the latest detections.
As many as 56 people have lost their lives to covid in the district in the past one year with the reported active cases crossing the 7000 mark.
As the new year begins with covid vaccination for teenagers in the age group of 15 onwards, there is optimism that the spread of infection can be halted before it becomes another major health issue, as the one witnessed last year which led to lockdowns to break the infection chain.
Covid-19 vax for ages 15-18 begins in SWGH
Meanwhile, Covid-19 vaccination sessions for beneficiaries in the age group of 15-18 years have begun at all the health facilities of South West Garo Hills district today, while at Garobadha PHC the session had started from 3rd January.
No cases of AEFI was reported from any health facility till the time of filing this report.
Target beneficiaries are required to bring along their school ID card, ration card or Aadhar card and for those beneficiaries having no ID card separate session would be created.
