SHILLONG, Jan 7: The Shillong Municipal Employees’ Association (SMEA) on Friday moved the state government for an office space in the heart of the city for the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB).
“We have said the government can allot the Board with an office space near MUDA or MTC building,” SMEA president, Sylvester Pyngrope, told reporters after meeting Urban Affairs Minister, Sniawbhalang Dhar.
Informing that Dhar has assured of raising the matter in the Cabinet, Pyngrope said, “We have also suggested if the Lumpyngngad Bungalow can be converted into a permanent office space if the government cannot provide us with a space in the heart of the city.”
“The government has allotted a land near NPP office at Bivar Road for the construction of the permanent office,” the SMEA president said.
Pyngrope said that as per the agreement, the SMB was assured to allot an office space with an area of 30,000 square feet besides 5,000 square feet for a parking space.
“But now, the present government has decided to allot the whole space to Maxim Infrastructure & Real Estate Pvt Ltd for the five-star hotel,” he said.
