SHILLONG, Jan 15: The Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Mawiong, which was inaugurated extravagantly by Home Minister Amit Shah last year, is yet to be made operational, but it is expected to be up and running once the ‘facilities’ at the ISBT are set up .
According to sources, the government recently floated the tender for allotment of shops inside the ISBT with the tender’s last date being January 14, but the authorities may even extend it for another week. “Once the shops are allotted and these facilities come up, the operations will start in the ISBT,” sources said.
The government had earlier set a target to make the ISBT functional before Meghalaya celebrates its 50th statehood day on January 21.The terminus was constructed at a cost of Rs 48.31 crore funded by the North Eastern Council.
As per government’s earlier statements, following the ISBT’s grand inauguration, the Transport department had handed it over to the Meghalaya Transport Corporation to make it functional.
