SHILLONG, Jan 16: Meghalaya Athletic Association (MAA) secretary, Finely L Pariat has taken over as the new general secretary of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA), on Sunday.
Pariat took over as the new general secretary following the resignation of Chiranjib Choudhury. Choudhury had handed over his resignation letter to MSOA working president, John F Kharshiing.
Pariat has represented the state in football and athletics. After retiring as a player, he held the position of honorary secretary of badminton of the Shillong Sports Association (SSA) in 1995. He was elected as honorary secretary of athletics of SSA and holds the position till date.
Pariat was indoor secretary of the Meghalaya State Government Employees Federation from 1990 till 2016 and was elected as treasurer of the Meghalaya Athletics Association in 2005 and general secretary in 2012.
When contacted, Pariat said, “I will continue to work for the development of sports in the State. It is a perfect birthday gift for me since I will be celebrating my birthday on January 21 which coincides with the golden jubilee of Meghalaya statehood,” he added.
