SHILLONG, Jan 17: KHNAM MLA from North Shillong, Adelbert Nongrum held a sit-in at Malki Ground in protest against the NPP-led government’s failure to fulfil his demand within the five-day deadline which ended on Monday.
“The sit-in demonstration will continue till 10am of January 22,” Nongrum said.
The KHNAM MLA questioned how the state can celebrate its 50 years of statehood when several issues including the resolution of the interstate boundary dispute have remained pending.
“I do not see any merit in celebrating this occasion. Therefore, I have decided to boycott the celebrations on January 21,” he said.
Last week Nongrum had submitted a five-point charter of demands to Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma which included revision of the state reservation policy, a separate IAS cadre for Meghalaya and enhancement of the upper age limit in appointment to government jobs.
