BSF foils cloth smuggling bid

TURA, Jan 20: In another crackdown against smugglers in South Garo Hills, troops of the 55 Bn BSF on Wednesday seized a huge amount of clothing and cosmetics worth a total of Rs 22 Lakhs which were being smuggled into Bangladesh.

Troops of BOP Silbari 55 Bn BSF under Meghalaya Frontier carried out joint operation with Meghalaya Police in the district’s border areas and werer able to seize the illegal consignment. All the seized items were handed over to concerned Custom office for further legal action.

This not the first time that such a seizure has taken place in the district. Earlier too, the BSF were able to seize large quantities of clothes being smuggled illegally to the neighbouring country on several occasions.
