SHILLONG, Jan 29: Congress leader, Ampareen Lyngdoh on Saturday predicted that all political parties in the state, including her party, will face the defections of its MLAs by June-July.

“I am very sure that it will not just be the Congress legislators who will be moving from here to there, everybody will be moving. The public should ensure that they vote for a stable government,” Lyngdoh said on the reported plan of some Congress MLAs to contest the 2023 Assembly polls from a regional party.
Stating that the impending defections will lead to complete confusion, she said, “This confusion prevails and it is not good for anyone to stand and testify he or she is a saint.”
“I refuse to comment whether Congress will further disintegrate. My question is which other parties will also disintegrate literally for 2023. A stable government is in the hands of the citizens and we do not know what is going to happen,” she added.
She said the Congress is still the topic for discussion of every political party.
“We really do not know where all of this is going to lead. We just have to be patient and ensure that Congress holds on to the support it has,” she said.
She also said that the Congress’ state leadership is trying to communicate this important matter to the high command with a hope that some action will be taken to make sure the party is not wiped out from the state.
“I am not talking about any other member. I cannot speak about others as people, who have benefitted from the party, actually left without any reason. I still remember a senior member once saying he is too old to leave but just a week later, he had left,” Lyngdoh said.
The politics of 2023 is going to be a big surprise, she said alluding to defection. She said it is happening also in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, Goa and Punjab.
On the All India Trinamool Congress, Lyngdoh said, “Players from other states are entering our state and people need to focus on that. Would we like to hand over the affairs of our state to parties that are located in other parts of the country?”
