Institute on parliamentary studies ready: Speaker

SHILLONG, Jan 31: Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh informed that the construction of the North East Regional Institute of Parliamentary Studies, Training & Research (NERIPSTR), at Khanapara has been completed.
Talking to reporters after the joint of meeting of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region Zone-III and executive council of NERIPSTR in Shillong on Monday, Lyngdoh said that the institute will impart training on parliamentary studies to legislators and Assembly employees from North East.
“As of now, the MLAs of NE states have to attend this training workshop programmes in Lok Sabha. So, we felt that this is the need of the hour. We felt that we should have our own training team in Assam,” Lyngdoh, who is also the president of NERIPSTR, said.
According to him, Principal Secretary of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Hemen Das, has been appointed as the director to ensure that the institute functions without delay.
Lyngdoh also informed that the 18th conference of the CPA India Region Zone-III will be held in mid-April in Itanagar.
The Speaker also informed that agendas of the next CPA conference in Itanagar were discussed during Monday’s meeting.
“We expect that by February 15, we should be able to send all the subject matters related to the Northeastern states,” he said.
It may be mentioned that the meeting was also attended by Assam Assembly Speaker, Biswajit Daimary, Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Speaker, Tesam Pongte, Meghalaya Deputy Speaker, Timothy D. Shira, Commissioner & Secretary, Nagaland Government, Dr PJ Anthony, Principal Secretary, Assam Government, Hemen Das, and Additional Secretary, Arunachal Pradesh Government, Tadar Meena, among others. Tripura Speaker, Ratan Chakraborty, partook in the meeting virtually.
