MAWKYRWAT, Feb 8: In a much-needed shot in the arm for the United Democratic Party (UDP), Mawkyrwat circle, ahead of the 2022 Assembly elections, hundreds of people — which include leaders from NPP, PDF, HSPDP and NPP — joined the party on Tuesday during a meeting in Mawkyrwat, South West Khasi Hills.
Some of the leaders who joined the UDP include Mawkyrwat PDF general secretary JM Lyngdoh, Mawkyrwat NPP ex-president Spaidar Paliar, Mawkyrwat NPP women’s wing president Philis Kharwanniang, along with their supporters.
The new members were welcomed to the party by adviser of the UDP (Mawkyrwat) HS Lyngdoh, in the presence of the Mawkyrwat UDP president S Nongsiej, Mawkyrwat UDP general secretary Denis Wanniang, among others.
Speaking at the meeting, Wanniang informed that the UDP Mawkyrwat circle will recommend projecting Medalsing Lyngdoh for contesting 2023 elections.
He said Medalsing is the one responsible for reorganising the UDP in Mawkyrwat constituency.
Exhorting the supporters of the UDP supporters to not fret over the impending Assembly elections, Wanniang made it clear that the UDP Mawkyrwat Circle will not work in tandem with the HSPDP, especially with local MLA from HSPDP, Renikton L Tongkhar.
“From the UDP, we are fed up of working together with this local MLA because he has totally neglected our party workers, who had supported him in 2018 elections. Therefore, the UDP Mawkyrwat Circle cannot and will not be able to work together again with him (Renikton) again because, as a party, we are growing stronger each day and we have high hopes of winning this election,” Wanniang said.
