SHILLONG, Feb 10: Bisnupur Kench’s Trace acting Rangbah Shnong, W Lyngdoh, on Thursday defended the acting Syiem of Hima Mylliem, Ainam Sing Syiem, for not recognising the election of KB Nongbri as the Rangbah Shnong of the locality.
Talking to reporters, Lyngdoh said that Nongbri had obtained the permission from the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner to convene the meeting of the Dorbar Shnong for election of the Rangbah Shnong.
“How can only 50 per cent of the residents elect the Dorbar Shnong? At the same time, the acting Syiem of Hima Mylliem had to halt the meeting since the district administration had allowed attendance of only 50 per cent since COVID-19 cases were at their peak,” the acting Rangbah Shnong said.
Interestingly, he pointed out that the meeting of the Dorbar Shnong for election of the Rangbah Shnong on the April 17, 2021, was held at the same place and the same time when the beneficiaries of the MLA scheme from the whole constituency were present.
Meanwhile, he stated that the acting Syiem had appointed him as the acting Rangbah Shnong since he was the former Rangbah Shnong.
Referring to the High Court judgment, the acting Rangbah Shnong said that the court did not give its ruling in anyone’s favour.
According to him, it had only directed the acting Syiem of Hima Mylliem to take corrective measures and resolve the matter.
Earlier, the acting Syiem of Hima Mylliem was accused of failing to rectify the errors on the appointment letter (sanad) issued to the newly elected Rangbah Shnong, KD Nongbri, in violation of the Meghalaya High Court order.
