City bizman picked up over suspected drug link

SHILLONG, Feb 15: Assam Police has picked up a Shillong-based businessman for his alleged complicity in a drug case.
The businessman, son of the owner of a reputed hotel in Shillong, was picked up based on leads provided by two Nigerian drug peddlers who were arrested on Saturday from Guwahati railway station.
The Assam police team had recovered 20 grams of cocaine from their possession. The duo reportedly told police that they were to hand over the consignment of cocaine to a ‘carrier’ working for a Shillong-based client.
According to an Assam-based news portal, the ‘carrier’ was arrested and during interrogation he allegedly confessed that he had been asked by his owner to collect the consignment from the two Nigerians.  The news portal reported that the businessman, the carrier and the two Nigerian national were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Guwahati.
The businessman was released after the court recorded his statement.
