M’laya Cabinet extends tenure of PDS dealers

SHILLONG, March 1: The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved the extension of tenure of wholesalers and fair price shops dealers under Public Distribution System (PDS) from a year each to two years and three years respectively.
The Cabinet, on Tuesday, also approved Meghalaya State Consumer Protection (Salary, Allowances and Condition of Service of President and Members of State and District Commission) Rules 2021, to “ensure pay parity of the members”.
Informing about the Cabinet’s decision, Home Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui, said, “As you know, as of now the term of the government wholesalers in PDS is one year. Now, we are changing it to two years and for the fair price shop (dealers), as of now it is one year; we have approved it for three years’ term.”
He informed that the Cabinet has also approved the Meghalaya Directorate of Sainik Welfare Zila Sainik Welfare Army Navy and Air Force service rule 2020, as well as the address of the Governor for the Budget Session scheduled to begin on March 4.
The Cabinet also took up a formal approval of previous ordinance such as the Contingency Fund of Meghalaya Amendment ordinance, Meghalaya Fiscal Responsibility Budget Management Act 2006, which will be taken up as a bill in the upcoming session of the Assembly.
