WJH farmers gain from awareness prog

SHILLONG, March 4: Research Extension Centre -Shillong in coordination with Department of Sericulture & Weaving, West Jaintia Hills, on Thursday organised an awareness programme for farmers at Thadmusem village.
According to a statement, the programme was attended by 50 women sericulture farmers from Thadmusem and neighbouring villages. “The package of practices for mulberry cultivation to produce quality mulberry leaves, importance of chawki rearing and disinfection and maintenance of hygiene in rearing and the late-age rearing management practices for successful bivoltine crop harvest were explained in a detailed manner to the beneficiaries,” the statement said.
Further, new technologies developed by the Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute, Berhampore, were also explained to the farmers.
