Shillong, Mar 7: All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) MLA, HM Shangpliang has questioned  State Government  why such a large number of doctors, nurses and health workers working in the government health sectors are yet to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Raising this issue during the Question Hour on the second  day of the ongoing budget session of the state Assembly, he said that as per the report of the study conducted by IIPH Shillong, there are 93 doctors, 468 nurses and 434 non-medical staffs working government health centers who are yet to be vaccinated.

He said that the situation, however,  is a bit better in the private hospitals since there are only 43 doctors, 144 nurses and 147 non-medical staffs who are yet to be vaccinated as per this report.

Shangpliang said that he is aware that the government is trying to create awareness that vaccination is important in the fight against  Covid-19.

The AITC MLA said that the government is also forcing  people to get themselves vaccinated and at the same time doctors  and nurses are still  hesitant to take the vaccine.

Shangpliang said that the people can question why they  should be  vaccinated if this is the trend.

Earlier, Health Minister, James PK Sangma informed that there are 2456 health workers who are yet to be vaccinated in the government health centers while there are 48 health workers in the private hospitals.
