SHILLONG, March 22: The NPP on Tuesday said it has no plans to disrupt the present arrangement in the KHADC by staking claim to lead its Executive Committee (EC).
“We have no plans to lead the EC in the KHADC at the moment,” NPP’s Pyniaid Sing Syiem said.
He was confident the party’s strength in the KHADC would go up in the coming days. “It is confirmed that Mawlai MDC, Teibor Pathaw is all set to join the party on March 25. We are also holding discussions with Rambrai-Jyrngam MDC, Bajop Pyngrope and Mairang MDC, Batskhem Ryntathiang. We will have a total number of 12 MDCs in the KHADC if all three of them join us,” Syiem said.
But as things stand now, the NPP will continue to respect the agreement agreed upon during the formation of the United Democratic Alliance to allow the United Democratic Party (UDP) to lead the EC in the KHADC, he said.
On the agreement of sharing the CEM post between Paul Lyngdoh and Titosstarwell Chyne, Syiem said this is an internal matter of the UDP.
“We have nothing to say. We will not have any problem if any of the two leaders becomes the CEM,” he said.
The UDP MDCs in 2019, under the leadership of the then party chief Donkupar Roy, had decided that the CEM’s post would be awarded to party MDCs Teinwell Dkhar, Chyne and Lyngdoh on a rotation basis.
According to the agreement, Dkhar will first hold the post of CEM for one year after which it would be rotated between Lyngdoh and Chyne.
Lyngdoh had stated that he would not make a fresh move and refer only to a decision taken at the instance of the former party president (Donkupar Roy).
“This decision was taken by Dr Roy not as an individual but as the president of the UDP. So it is binding on the party and the incumbent to respect that decision,” the Jaiaw MDC had said.
