SHILLONG, April 6: The state government has set a September date for inauguration of the new Assembly building at Mawdiangdiang.
“We plan to complete the project by July. The commission and testing of the various components of the project will be completed by the end of August,” Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh said on Wednesday after chairing the review meeting with senior officials.
Mentioning that he was satisfied with the overall progress of construction work, Lyngdoh said more concerted efforts were needed to complete the project as per schedule.
The Speaker pointed out that the crane, which is the only one of its kind in India, currently being used for lifting the fabricated structure for the dome has completed about 75% of its work.
He further added that the construction of the minaret atop the dome will begin next week.
Asked about the funding, Lyngdoh said it would be difficult for him to say when the Centre will release funds for the project. “We had held discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman,” he added.
During the review meeting, the Speaker discussed micro details of the project with department heads of the Public Works Department, Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited, National Informatics Centre and Forests and Environment, amongst others.
