NONGPOH, April 12: The National People’s Party (NPP) will likely have numbers to boast about in the Assembly polls next year as hundreds of members and supporters of the Indian National Congress (INC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and United Democratic Party (UDP) have joined the NPP at a function in Pahamsohthri village, Ri-Bhoi, on Tuesday.
Those that have rallied to the NPP are former top Congress leaders from Nongpoh Block Congress Committee including Plielad Tiewsoh along with his supporters, UDP’s Iadalang Makdoh and UDP Youth Wing president Phis Narlong, besides more than 300 supporters including those from the BJP. Deputy Chief Minister and NPP national vice president, Prestone Tynsong welcomed the new members into the NPP in the presence of party’s candidate from Nongpoh for 2023 polls, Macdalyne Sawkmie Mawlong, besides Umsning MLA Jason Sawkmie Mawlong, Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun, Mawlai MDC Teibor Pathaw, Mawsynram MDC Alvin Sawkmie, NPYF Shillong City president Mayborn Rapthap, former UDP leaders Rayonald Kharkamni and Lawrence Nongrum.
Addressing a function at Pahamsohthri, Tynsong pointed out that the massive support for NPP is indicative of the fact that people trust the NPP.
Taking a jibe at the Congress and BJP, Tynsong, a former Congressman, said meeting NPP national leadership is much easier compared to getting in touch with the INC or BJP top brass.
