Saksham ’22 campaign launched in Meghalaya

SHILLONG, April 13: A month-long mass awareness campaign of the Centre on clean and green energy — SAKSHAM 2022 — was formally launched in true spirit for Meghalaya on Tuesday.
SAKSHAM (Sanrakshan Kshamata Mahotsav) would include various activities such as cyclotron, farmer workshops, seminars, painting competition, CNG vehicle driving contest, etc to spread awareness among masses about the advantages of using clean fuels.
Speaking as the chief guest during the inaugural function at Hotel Heiga VNS here, Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, Isawanda Laloo, highlighted the high dependence on import for meeting crude oil requirement in the country against the backdrop of ever-increasing energy demand.
She appealed to all concerned to actively participate in the programmes under Saksham 2022 and transform this conservation campaign into a way of life.
During the inaugural function, the “Saksham Pledge” was taken in Hindi and English.
Video bytes of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Rameswar Teli, and Meghalaya’s Minster of Commerce & Industries department, Sniawbhalang Dhar, were played on the occasion.
A ‘Group Talk’ competition among the college students present in the inaugural function was also organised.
Others who were present include Deputy Director, Commerce & Industries department, Winfred Warshong, State Level Coordinator for the Oil Industry and Manager (Retail Sales), IOCL, Swarbhanu Handique, and more than 150 people.
