SHILLONG, April 22: United Democratic Party chief, Metbah Lyngdoh on Friday said it is the duty of the government to look into the dissatisfaction expressed by any section of society on any issue.
“Any issue from any section of society has to be examined properly,” he said while responding to accusations that the UDP was playing to the gallery on the Assam-Meghalaya border pact that has angered many villagers and the traditional bodies.
Lyngdoh said any dissatisfied group or section of society should come forward and put across their issues for the government to examine.
He said the UDP has been taking up with the chief minister issues of corruption and anomalies in the government whenever allegations are hurled from time to time. “We seek probes into such allegations to find out if they are true or not,” he added.
The state government has not been sitting idle and has ordered an independent inquiry into a few such cases, Lyngdoh pointed out. “The probe panels will submit their reports and we will look into them,” he said.
The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) had recently ridiculed the UDP, a constituent of the National People’s Party-led MDA government for playing to the gallery on crucial issues of the state including the interstate boundary dispute with Assam.
The AITC had maintained that parties flaunting ‘Jaitbynriew’ during election campaigns become quiet when the people suffer and protest the state government’s decision to give away large swathes of land to Assam.
