SHILLONG, April 22: United Democratic Party (UDP) chief Metbah Lyngdoh on Friday dismissed speculation that senior NPP leader and Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong may join the regional party.
“If anybody wants to contest from the UDP, they are free to come and express their willingness and we will examine the matter,” Lyngdoh told reporters.
Asked if his party has received feelers from any All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) leader, Lyngdoh said the UDP has received feelers from leaders of several political parties.
“We are examining these developments and following the due process,” he said.
The UDP president was categorical in asserting that a new political party like the AITC will not post any challenge to his party since people of the state are looking at the UDP as the only regional party which can stand up for them.
