SHILLONG, April 26: Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh has asserted that the approach to empower students in urban and rural Meghalaya should not be same.
The Speaker said this during his address as a chief guest at a state-level sensitisation-cum-orientation programme, which was organised at the State Convention Centre, Shillong.
As part of Pariksha Parv 4.0 celebrations, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights with the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Meghalaya, in collaboration with the Asia Foundation and New India Junction on Tuesday organised the programme, which was also attended by Social Welfare Minister Kyrmen Shylla as the guest of honour.
Lyngdoh, in his address, said that the same yardstick cannot be used in both urban and rural areas as the gap is too wide.
He maintained that programmes that aim at changing children’s perspective towards examinations should predominantly percolate to the rural areas.
Talking to media persons on the sideline of the function, the Speaker said, “Students or children at rural areas should have equal platform so they are able to cope with changes of time.”
Lyngdoh also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Pariksha Parv campaign.
The Speaker added that the new idea to celebrate the festival of examinations is ideal, and students, through the Pariksha Parv, can remove the stress and anxiety of examinations.
“Professional role is vital in undertaking tests, observation and writing skills of students, which will go a long way in reducing their stress,” he said.
Lyngdoh also exhorted the teachers to help children become mentally stronger and enable them to shoulder responsibilities.
During the programme, Lyngdoh and Shylla also distributed among the student attendees Exam Warriors, a book authored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
