SHILLONG, April 28: Petrol price in Shillong has shown no signs of decrease for almost a month now, sitting firm at above Rs 100-mark and it is likely that the rate will not see any downward trend unless the government relaxes its taxes on the fuel.
According to the owner of a petrol pump in the city, petrol price has remained constant at Rs 103 while slight variations is, however, seen every few days in terms of paisa.
The state government charges 13 per cent tax on a litre of petrol, and four per cent per litre on diesel.
On Thursday, the rate of petrol in Shillong was Rs 103.56, while diesel cost Rs 89.55 per litre.
“The rates (in state) are lowest in the country and the prices are increasing since central government is increasing it, and the state government does not have any role in this,” the petrol pump owner said.
The skyrocketing price of petrol directly affects the common man as it is linked to the price rise of essential commodities.
Even the local taxi drivers in the city have expressed their concern over the high fuel price. They feel that the price must be brought down to give the people a breather.
