GUWAHATI, May 1: City police arrested three youths from Meghalaya and one from Assam and seized suspected heroin, valued at about Rs 6 crore in the international market, near the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD), Khanapara here on Sunday.
Basistha police station officer-in-charge D. Goyari informed The Shillong Times here that on the basis of a specific input, an operation was carried out by his team in front of the SIRD office, Khanapara and, during the search, suspected heroin, weighing 765 grams and concealed inside plastic soap boxes, were seized from a eight-seater vehicle (Maruti Eeco) bearing registration number ML-10C-1641.
“Three arrested persons – Kelvin Klein, Mankhro Ronghang and Manik Engti – hail from Nongpoh (Ri Bhoi district) while the other arrested youth, identified as Dhrubajyoti Bora, is a resident of Samaguri in central Assam’s Nagaon district,” Goyari said.
The vehicle, along with four mobile handsets, were also seized by the police.
The office-in-charge further informed that the consignment was suspected to have been ferried via Khatkhati in Karbi Anglong en route to Shillong.
Gold biscuits seized
A team belonging to the customs department, Shillong and Badarpur police carried out a joint operation and seized six gold biscuits from a jewellery shop at Mission Road, Badarpur in Karimganj district on Saturday night.
Sources said the gold biscuits, weighing around 699.10 grams, were valued in the market at over Rs 36 lakh.
