SHILLONG, May 2: Home Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui on Monday claimed that both the HNLC and the state government were steadfast in their commitment to ensure peace in Meghalaya.
Refusing to divulge any details on the peace talks between the outfit and the government-appointed interlocutor, Peter S Dkhar, the Home minister said he did not want to do any running commentary on the peace talks.

Delay in DGP’s appointment
Home Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui has justified the delay in appointment of a full-fledged DGP, saying it was not easy for the government to pick one officer out of the three contenders for the top post. “I don’t doubt their integrity and efficiency but we have to ensure that the best candidate is appointed as DGP,” Rymbui said.
The government has appointed Idashisha Nongrang as Special DGP following former police chief R Chandranathan’s retirement on December 31, 2021.
The UPSC has shortlisted Mukesh Agarwal, KV Singh Deo (both 1989 batch) and Lajja Ram Bishnoi (1991 batch) for appointment as the DGP of Meghalaya.
