Former Jowai MLA no more

SHILLONG, May 10: Former MLA of Jowai, Sing Mulieh breathed his last at his residence in Loompyrdi Iongpiah, Jowai on Tuesday. He was 71.
His mortal remains were taken to his ancestral village of Ialong. The cremation will be held at 10 am on Thursday at Lum Jingthang, Sein Raij Ialong.
Late Mulieh was elected as MLA in 1998 when the UDP had won all the seven seats in Jaintia Hills.
He was reelected in 2003 as a UDP candidate but lost to veteran Congress leader RC Laloo in 2008. He had also unsuccessfully contested the Assembly elections in 2013.
He was a member of the JHADC and had held the post of chief executive member.
Mulieh, who later associated himself with the BJP, was preparing to contest the 2023 Assembly polls.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma condoled his demise. “As a veteran statesman, Ma Sing played an active role in the development of the State & was deeply admired by the people,” the CM tweeted.
