GSU demands inquiry into school building project delay
TURA, May 10: The GSU, Siju, has urged the South Garo Hills deputy commissioner to initiate an inquiry into the delay in the completion of the construction of Siju Model School. Informing that the model school was sponsored in 2012-13, the GSU said, “Though the RMSA scheme is meant to improve secondary education, the students from the area are not able to benefit from it due to the negligence of the contractor and the concerned authority.” Pointing out that the school, if completed, can be the centre of attraction for students who want to pursue secondary education, the union urged the DC to initiate an inquiry into the matter.
Roadshow at NEHU Shillong
SHILLONG, May 10: A delegation of students of Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, organised a roadshow in collaboration with North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU).According to a statement, the roadshow, which was organised in NEHU campus, was participated by students from IIT Guwahati as well as students, research scholars, faculty members and staff from various departments of NEHU. It may be mentioned that a series of roadshows is being organised by North-Eastern Research Conclave to sensitise the public about the research in the field of science, technology, and climate change across North-East.
School building inaugurated
NONGSTOIN, May 10: North Eastern Council (NEC)-funded building of St Thomas Secondary School, Nongjri, in Mawshynrut Civil Subdivision, was on Tuesday inaugurated by Mawshynrut MLA Gigur Myrthong. The school building was funded in 2020-2021 and was initiated for an estimated amount of Rs 50 lakh. During the programme, the school principal expressed gratitude to the MLA. Myrthong, on the other hand, informed that Mawshynrut has this year received Rs 5 crore which will be utilised for the improvement of educational and tourism sectors in Mawshynrut area.
