Contractor assures repair of PMGSY road after complaints
TURA, May 11: The contractor of an upcoming PMGSY road has promised to initiate rework on a section of a road in the wake of poor construction allegations levelled by the locals. The matter came to light after a video showing locals demonstrate the poor quality of the road went viral on social media. In the video, the locals also alleged that very less bitumen was used on the road, due to which they were able to pick up pieces of the road. The video surfaced online on Tuesday, almost three weeks after the road construction was completed. When West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh was apprised of the matter, an inquiry was ordered by the PWD and a subsequent visit to the site was made. The department later pulled the contractor up over the issue. The contractor, in his defence, informed that the poor construction is attributed to the work done during rainfall. He, however, assured that the work on the section will be redone.
