Labourers in Umiam stage protest after KSU ‘assault’
SHILLONG, May 12: Hundreds of labourers resorted to protest by refusing to resume work at the MIDC Industrial Estate, Umiam, after they were allegedly assaulted by members of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Umiam Circle on Thursday while conducting an inspection to check labour licences. Many have been reportedly injured in the incident.The Union was reportedly conducting an inspection drive after receiving reports that many of the labourers did not possess licence. Police and magistrates were also deployed to take stock of the situation.

BJP unit formed
SHILLONG, May 12: The BJP Lamavilla unit under West Shillong Constituency was formed on Thursday. Members of the party elected Emur Khongshling as the unit president, Nicholas Nikhla as vice president, Nicholas K Kharsyntiew as general secretary besides other members. Office-bearers of the youth and Mahila units were also elected.
