SHILLONG, May 17: The state government is going all out in the war against drug menace while efforts are on to further bolster the intelligence network, Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said on Tuesday.
It was also informed that the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has been set up in all districts, barring Eastern West Khasi Hills.
“The anti-narcotic task force has been set up in all the districts of the state except the newly created district to monitor and see that this menace could be nipped in the bud,” said the home minister.
He said that the Police department, through media and social media, are also conducting awareness programmes on the ills of drug abuse.
Informing that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had recently convoked a meeting to confer at length about the issue, Rymbui said, “We discussed what is need to be done to have more stringent intelligence network, on how to tackle the drug problems, who are the kingpins and how to eradicate this cartel.”
“Most of the Yaba tablets are going to Bangladesh which the BSF and the state police seize from time to time. Cases have also been registered,” he added.
