More central support to improve sectors in Ri-Bhoi

NONGPOH, May 17: Contended with Ri-Bhoi’s performance against its peers, the central government has sanctioned Rs eight crore for improvement in healthcare, education and other important sectors in the district.
Informing this, Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Prof. SP Singh Baghel, said that the Centre has, till now, spent more than Rs 12 crore in Ri-Bhoi, sanctioned by the North Eastern Council and Niti Aayog.
Baghel, who visited Ri-Bhoi to inspect developmental projects under the Aspirational Districts Programme, also held a meeting with the district officials from various line departments.
It may be mentioned that the Union MoS visited the district to not only get first-hand information about the implementation of central projects but also encourage the district officials to toil towards the overall development of Ri-Bhoi.
Addressing media persons, the Union MoS, who is on a two-day visit to state, aired happiness over Ri-Bhoi’s ranking in the Aspirational Districts Programme, calling the same a great achievement.
Baghel, during the day, also visited the health & wellness centre at Umsawnongkharai village and held interactions with village health councils and self-help groups in Saiden village.
Meanwhile, Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Arpit Upadhyaya has informed that the meeting with the Union MoS was fruitful.
He also said that the district administration will soon submit some proposals to the central government for consideration.
It may be mentioned that Ri-Bhoi has made large strides since 2018, when it was ranked 51st, to the present where it ranks 5th among all the aspirational districts in the country.
