SHILLONG, May 19: Union Minister of Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan, will attend the XXVII Convocation of the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) on Saturday.
In a statement issued here, the University said that the Union minister has consented to attend the XXVII Convocation as the chief guest and deliver the convocation address besides giving away prizes and medals to the various awardees.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will be the guest of honour and take part in giving away prizes, certificates and citations besides addressing the gathering.
An estimated total of 127 medal winners — 38 University Gold Medal Winners and 87 Rector’s Gold Medal Winners — in various categories would receive their respective awards from the dignitaries present at the Convocation.
Vice-Chancellor of NEHU, Prof PS Shukla, will preside over the convocation ceremony and admit the candidates to their respective degrees.
Altogether, 2,103 candidates comprising 83 PhD, six M.Phil, 540 postgraduates and 1,474 graduates in various streams are expected to receive their respective degrees in person, while a total of 13,855 others will be conferred upon with their respective degree in absentia during the Convocation.
