Committee
A district-level appraisal committee has been formed in East Khasi Hills to scrutinise and recommend cases, where lives have been saved, for receipt of central award. It may be mentioned that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has launched a scheme for grant of awards to Good Samaritans who have saved lives of victims of fatal road accidents by administering immediate assistance and rushing to hospitals etc. The scheme is an initiative to reduce road fatalities and, at the same time, motivate the general public to come forward to save lives of road accident victims. In this regard, a district-level appraisal committee has been constituted. “Any deserving cases for the award will be brought to the attention of the Committee for scrutiny and recommendation,” a statement in this regard said.
