TURA, May 22: Combined organisations from Pedaldoba in West Garo Hills including the AYWO, AHAM, GSU and the GSMC has sought the intervention of the Deputy Commissioner on a pending road project in the region fearing that it will not be completed in time.
The road project in question according to the combined groups, is the over seven-kilometre-long PMGSY road from Gokolgre to Achotchonggre which was scheduled to be completed by December 30 this year. The groups informed that while the contract work was initially allotted to a local lady contractor in 2014, it was re-tendered in 2018-19 and allotted to a contractor from Manipur.
“The progress on the road has been very slow. There are still major works like construction of bridges, culverts etc and with the amount of time he has, he will not be able to complete the work in time,” the groups said in their complaint to the Deputy Commissioner. (Contd on P-4)
