TURA, June 6: Former MLA of Rajabala and current MDC from Batabari, Ashahel D Shira today provided a sum of Rs 1 lakh to two schools in the town of Tura while also promising to continue the support he provided for the next five years as well.
Shira provided the amount of Rs 1 lakh each to Tura Public School and Montfort School where he was a part of the World Environment Day (WED) celebration. Further, he has promised to provide the same amount to both schools for the next 5 years on WED every year.
The UDP leader went to Tura Public School this morning, Jun 6, where he said he was impressed with the students and the new Eco Club they formed.
The students have initiated the development of a herbal garden, an idea that has impressed Shira leading to him providing the school the money upfront as well as promising to do so every year on the same day.
He was joined in the celebrations by the DFO of GHADC, Rangku Sangma as well as teachers and students of the school.
Shira next visited the Montfort Centre in Tura which caters to many children with special abilities for the WED celebrations. In both schools, Shira planted saplings to mark the day along with teachers and students.
“The school caters to people with disabilities (PWD) like me and it is but natural that I support the cause and the celebrations that they undertake on Environment Day. I will continue doing so for the next five years as well,” said Shira on his gesture.
