Training for meat handlers of Ri-Bhoi

SHILLONG, June 16: As many as 25 meat handlers from Ri-Bhoi district participated in a training programme on ‘Techniques and Hygiene Practices in Slaughtering and Meat Handling’ organised by KVK Ri-Bhoi and Division of Animal & Fisheries Sciences (DAFS), ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Meghalaya, on Thursday.
The programme was funded by ST Component (previously TSP), ICAR Research Complex NEH Umiam.
All the meat handlers were given one free meat hygiene kit each which consists of 16 items to help them maintain hygiene at the place of slaughtering, meat-selling outlets and to prevent zoonotic diseases.
Dr Sandeep Ghatak briefed the meat handlers about various aspect of hygienic slaughter and the utility of the various inputs given to them.
The programme was attended by Nodal Officer, ST Component, ICAR RC NEH Umiam, Dr S Hazarika, head of DAFS, Dr Arnab Sen, head of KVK, Dr M Islam, and Nodal Officer TSP NRM, Dr T Singh.
The meat handlers welcomed the programme and exhibited willingness to participate in such an initiative, which would benefit their business and them safe from diseases.
