Scores of HSPDP supporters likely to join UDP in Mawkyrwat

MAWKYRWAT, June 23: Thousands of supporters of the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) are expected to join the United Democratic Party (UDP) in Mawkyrwat on Saturday at a grand function which is said to facilitate the entry of HSPDP leader and PHE Minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar into the UDP.
According to the invitation card, the UDP South West Khasi Hills District has invited its supporters from Mawkyrwat constituency for the function to welcome the leaders and supporters from the HSPDP, Congress, People’s Democratic Front (PDF), National People’s Party (NPP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the UDP camp.
Sources from the UDP said that the main objective of the meeting is to welcome HSPDP leaders and party functionaries who support Tongkhar.
“The joining of his leaders and supporters will pave the way for Renikton Tongkhar and his leaders to work and improve the party organisation and also to strengthen the UDP ahead of the 2023 general elections,” they said.
According to sources, it was also confirmed Tongkhar will join the party and contest the upcoming elections on UDP ticket.
