Skill Mela held in Jowai

Jowai, June 27: The Meghalaya State Skill Development Society organised a two-day Skill Mela at Kiang Nangbah Government College Auditorium on Monday and Tuesday.

The programme was supported by the SANKALP, Ministry Skill Development and Enterprenuership.

Local MLA, Wailadmiki Shylla and Additional Deputy Commissioner, DD Syngngai graced the programme as the Chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

Speaking as the chief guest, Shylla said “This is the need of the hour, we are facing unemployment problem and we all do understand that we cannot provide government  job to each and everyone. Hence, the government have started the Skill Meghalaya”, Shylla said adding that along with our academic knowledge we need to have a skills. Knowing is not enough but we need to master it.

“Many have changed their skill but the MLA requested the youth to stick in one skill and master it”,  the MLA added.
The MLA also stressed on the need to conduct a survey before starting any programme so that works in such field are available in our home state not by going outside the state.

“We want ILP because of infiltration and they came here because we have plenty of opportunities”, Wailadmiki said. “Please master your skill”, he added.

He further informed that he had started a business training programme recently. However, not many can be accommodated.

The JHADC MDC, O Lamin, Executive Director of the MSSDS, Shivansh Awasthi and Principal Kiang Nangbah were also present.
The representatives from Jaintia Institute of Technology and Society for Urban and Rural Empowerment shared their experiences earlier.
