AIR Shillong turns 75, announces yearlong events

SHILLONG, July 1: The All India Radio (AIR) Shillong on Friday celebrated its 75th foundation day and announced yearlong programmes involving the public in general and schoolchildren in particular.
According to a statement, to commemorate the 75th foundation day of AIR Shillong, a programme was held in the city and was attended by former staff and officials of the station.
It may be mentioned that the AIR Shillong was inaugurated on July 1, 1948, by the then Governor of undivided Assam Akbar Hydari in the presence of the then Chief Minister of undivided Assam Gopinath Bordoloi.
Director and Head of Office, AIR Shillong T Hynniewta, who was part of the programme on Friday, informed the gathering about the role played by the station over the years.
“AIR Shillong has established itself as a reputed organisation, providing factual information to its listeners due to the hard work put in by many people including retired officials and staff,” he said.
Lauding the contributions of the current and retired staff of AIR Shillong, Hynniewta touched upon the initiatives that catered to the needs of young listeners.
Others who spoke during the programme were former Chief Producer of Doordarshan Sweety S Diengdoh and former Deputy Director-General Program of AIR Shillong Narimon Shadap.
