SHILLONG, July 4: Members of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will soon be able to participate in motions, resolutions and debates in Khasi and Garo languages, in addition to English.
This development comes in the wake of discussions initiated by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma with the Assembly Speaker and leaders of political parties.
“We are of the opinion that to a certain extent both Khasi and Garo languages should be allowed to be used with translation in the Assembly,” Sangma said on Monday, adding that the process has already started for the same and is likely to be introduced in the next session if the Assembly Secretariat gives the go ahead.
